User Experience (UX) Designer

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Department: Product Management

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

You’ve got a design first approach to life — you think about the look and feel of everyday products, you critique a website while you’re using it, and you have very strong opinions about pop-ups. You love to solve usability problems, and do the user research required to understand those problems. You are a visionary, seeing the world through the eyes of our clients, and spotting the gaps we need to fill. You have a knack for making complex concepts and workflows simple through clear communication. You are a true believer in projecting the energy you want to attract and are looking to work at a thriving company with a supportive and collaborative culture…. and of course, with beer and wine on tap.

If this sounds like you, then you should apply for this one-of-a-kind, challenging opportunity as our first in-house UX Designer.

STAT is a growing Vancouver software company and we are looking to expand our product team by adding a UX Designer. If you’re excited at the idea of shaping our entire approach to UX and Interaction Design, this is 100% the role for you.

Responsibilities

  • Research, map, and analyse the needs of our market, our product fit, and our gaps.
  • Create user flows, scenarios, wireframes, and prototypes that communicate design intent to key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent design and interaction ‘language’ across all product interactions.
  • Own and articulate a clear vision for the look-and-feel of our products.
  • Work with the product team to turn feature specs into interfaces.
  • Work with sales, marketing, engineering, and clients to vet and refine design proposals.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of UX or Interaction Design experience.
  • Portfolio examples of compelling web/app experiences (please submit a portfolio link with your cover letter).
  • Strong communicator — confident communicating complex concepts and design decisions.
  • Collaborative worker— a team player, you’re curious, and you’re comfortable asking questions, pushing back, and accepting feedback.

Gold stars if you have:

  • Experience in UX/IA for analytics and/or B2B products.
  • Passion for data visualization.

Perks

A few side benefits of working here:

  • Three weeks paid vacation, plus everyone gets an extra two-week paid vacation leading up to New Year’s Day.
  • Shorter summer hours to take advantage of that elusive Vancouver sunshine.
  • Free gym memberships.
  • Medical package including dental, optometry, prescriptions, massage, and physio.
  • A relaxed and welcoming work environment.
  • Opportunities for travel, further education, and career growth.
  • Flexible hours.
  • Our office is in Railtown in an open and collaborative space. And there are puppies, yes puppies.
  • And more — ask us about the rest.

Culture

Some reasons why you’d want to work with us:

  • You want to play a big part in growing a young, profitable company.
  • You do your best in a setting where excellent work is what’s valued — not long hours (a good work-life balance is just how we do things).
  • You’d like to work somewhere where you can wear your old hoodie — or your crisp new suit — and nobody is going to mind.
  • You’re looking for a big challenge that involves lots of variety, collaboration, inventiveness, and on your toes thinking.
  • You want to work alongside people who are easy-going, friendly, and helpful.
